Free Cornhole Building Plans

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

While looking around the internet, it seems that everybody and their brother is charging around $5 to give you a print-out on how to build your own cornhole boards. Why should you have to pay for this information? If you’re looking for free cornhole building plans, then you’ve come to the right place. We’d never charge our visitors for any information. We are wanting the game of cornhole to grow. The best way to achieve this is to give you all of the information that you need to build your own cornhole set.

Listed below you’ll find step-by-step instructions for building a cornhole set. if you want a printout of the information (since you probably won’t have your computer out in the yard with you while you’re building) just click the link at the bottom of the post to download everything that we have here!

List of Materials Needed

(2) 24″ x 48″ sheets of plywood (1/2 or 5/8 inch)
(4) 2″ x 4″ x 8′
(4) 4″ carriage bolts (washers & wingnuts)
(16) 10d Nails (10 penny, 3 inch)
(28) Drywall screws
(18) Cups of whole kernel feed corn (8 Bags)
(16) 7″x7″ Duck Cloth Squares (8 of two different colors)
(1) Quart High Gloss Latex Paint

List of Tools Needed

Circular Saw (or Drill with 6″ Hole Saw)
Jigsaw
Drill (#2 Phillips Bit)
Hammer
Paint Brush
Sewing Machine

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. On every sheet of plywood, measure 9″ from top by 12″ from side and mark this as the center for the hole. Drill a 6″ diameter hole, measureing 3″ from the center mark out. You can use a 6″ Hole Saw drill bit or with a compass, outline the hole and cut using the Jigsaw, whichever you are comfortable with.

  2. Cut three 2″x 4″s in half (4′ pieces). Cut another 2″x 4″ into four 21″ pieces (leaving 16″ of wood leftover). You should now have four 48″ pieces and four 21″ pieces.

  3. Use those pieces to build two 48″x24″ frames using (2) 10 penny nails at each corner. The two 48″ pieces will be on the outer side on the frame. The 21″ pieces will be on the inside of the two 48″ pieces, making the top and bottom sides equal to 24″(21″ plus the two 2″ sides). View the above pictures for the orientation of the 2″x 4″ pieces.

  4. Attach a sheet of plywood to each frame using drywall screws. Four evenly spaced across the top and bottom. Every 12 inches for both sides. Counter-sink each screw to prevent damage to bags.

  5. Cut four 12″ pieces with the remaining 2″x 4″. These will act as the legs of the frame. Using the 4″ carriage bolts, attached each leg to the frame. Align the top of the leg flush against the plywood with each side of the leg flush against the top and side of the frame, essentially putting a leg in each corner, making sure to keep the legs at a 90 degree angle. Fasten the legs to the platform using the carriage bolts, washers and wingnuts.

  6. Sand any corner as well as the hole making sure thee are no sharp edges left after cutting. Paint the frame using the High Gloss Latex Paint.

  7. To assemble the bags, take two of the 7″x 7″ fabric squares and sew a double stitch seam on three sides. Fill each bag with 2 cups (16oz) of the hard corn feed. Stitch closed the last side of the bag.
